The first auditions at São Paulo Companhia de Dança were held between February 13 and 24, 2008 in the Brazilian state capital cities of Belém, Recife, Brasília, and Porto Alegre, as well as in Argentina. The final audition was held in São Paulo, on February 25, 2008 at Teatro Sérgio Cardoso. All in all, 824 dancers completed audition applications. After the placement examination, 39 dancers were offered positions in the company.

New auditions are held in the latter part of every year at the SPCD headquarters. In 2008 they took place on December 12 and 13, and then again on October 30 and 31, 2009 and on November 5, 6 and 7, 2010. In 2011 they took place on November 11 and 12. At the auditions, applicants take ballet technique tests, and perform sequences of modern and contemporary dance as well as choreographic phrases taken from the company's repertoire.
